Scary Movie 4 Dvd Cover! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is just two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered which you list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving needs a different twist. Neither more likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes from the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or any day from the year.

Big oil company propaganda with a heart! Just the free movie we'd like for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one in the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation inside the United States National Film Registry through the Library of Congress to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of the Cajun boy and the family, living for the bayous you might say of life that people can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land on the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything much like it was, clean and unspoiled with the exception that the family carries a little more money. (Yes, it had been funded with the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating over the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, along with his pet raccoon. He never wears a life preserver or shoes... doesn't even have a cell phone to call in case he gets having problems. There is not much story, only a celebration (in these stunning black and white photography that you might well wonder what the big deal is all about color) of an way of life that is no longer along with us.
All with the actors were amateurs, as well as for most, this is their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who played the boy, was surviving in a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their house. (source). A monochrome silent film that ends which has a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, exactly what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc on this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died believing that the last copy was destroyed. In a bit of weirdness that sounds a lot more like a movie compared to the truth, a nearly complete print is discovered in 1981 in a very janitor's closet of a Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that people can watch this magnificent film, on many lists from the greatest films of them all, free of charge online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered a difficult breakdown during the making of this film, and she or he never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, asserted Falconetti's performance "may be the finest performance ever documented on film."
